Nice, France - Day 3

Nice's harbour - notice all of the yachts! Love the colors of all of the buildings and the contrast against the green mountainside and the blue ocean! Truly a rainbow of colors, even in the rain! Side note: Elton John has a house at the top of the green hill.

Le Cote d'Azur - Nice 2009

J'adore le Cote d'Azur! Nice (pronounced neeece) on the French Riviera. Sunset over the Mediterranean with our hotel in a distance. Does it get any better than this?

Paris 2009 - Day 3

A close up look at the intricate stone carvings in the doorways of Notre Dame Cathedral. See the man holding his own head? That is St. Denis - legend says he carried his own head all the way up the nearby hill of Montmartre! The attention to detail is incredible! Notice the animal creatures in the bottom arches.

Paris 2009 - Day 2

Versailles' little known working farm village created for Marie Antoinette so that she could live with the "common folk". I find this man-made "village" to be so quaint and cute, and even better that is it a fully functional farm. This is one of the farm houses built on the property.

Paris 2009 - La Tour Eiffel

Bonjour! Arrival in Paris and an immediate trip to the Eiffel Tower! I love this picture! It is one of my favorites ever! :) Maybe I'm biased b/c "J'aime Paris et La Tour Eiffel"! (I converted the picture to black and white after the fact.)

Amsterdam 2009 - Day 2

Amsterdam day 2 was mostly occupied with a trip to Keukenhof (it means kitchen) gardens. If it were later in the season, more flowers would have been in bloom. In any case, it was beautiful! Of course a trip to Holland wouldn't be complete without wooden shoes!

Amsterdam 2009 - Flashback

A year ago I took a trip with my mom and brother to Europe for 9 days. I thought I would commemorate the year anniversary of the trip with a 9 day photo blog recap. Day 1 - arrive in Amsterdam. There really are windmills and it is a quaint town built on canals. We took a city tour by boat and visited Anne Frank's house!

Snow Flashback...

Weather calls for snow flurries today and it reminded me of the big snowfall we had earlier in the year. These are statue horses on Belle Meade Blvd in Nashville...but in the snow they looked so real, as if they were enjoying mother nature at her finest.

View from the sky..

Morning flight from Nashville to Atlanta, watching the sun peek thru the clouds in the foothills of Tennessee. It was a beautiful morning for a joy ride. Picture taken on my phone, so doesn't even come close to capturing the beauty, but at least it gives a general idea.

A different way to fly....

I had a quick business trip to Atlanta this weekend, and booked on "Pacific Wings" airlines. I should have known that it would be an "experience" when I got a call the night before to check in at Thrifty car rental in baggage claim so I could be "shuttled" to my airplane. Well, here is the plane we took. Surprisingly, the experience to ATL was quite nice, but ride home was a bit of a fiasco. While in the waiting area, I took this snapshot with the camera on my phone, just for fun.

Preds Win!

My first NHL Hockey Game! Nashville Predators facing off with Minnesota Wild. Preds win 5-0. Yay! :)

(it was so hard to capture a good picture at the game - with the overabundance of white from the ice, and the players in constant motion, it was challenging, but a good place to practice!)

Turkey for you..and turkey for me...

Wild Turkeys roaming a local golf course! Yes, they are real! I couldn't believe it myself! I parked on the side of the road and captured a few shots of them before they ran off into the woods! I am also surprised how pretty they are with the different colors and feathers!

Donkey Crossing ?!

This road is a "One Way"... unless you are a Donkey?! Then it is your official crossing location. I couldn't resist posting this snapshot that I took in the middle of Green Hills in Nashville. I can just imagine a Donkey trying to cross this 4 lane very busy road, but the Mall is nearby so maybe he is on to something. haha :)

Back to basics...

Back to basics in the kitchen...some systems just seem to work, so why change? Pretty soon these commonalities will be "relics" unfamiliar to the next generations.

Yup....Ketchup...

Since when did Heinz replace the signature "pickle" on the front of their ketchup bottles to the more appropriate "tomato" graphic? That's really gonna cause some fights on the old school Trivial Pursuit game!

Would you like salt with that ketchup? Yes, please! :)

Winter's Wildflowers

Fields full of 2009 wildflower skeletons abound. Pretty soon (hopefully) the brown will fade away and color will come back letting us all know it is officially Spring.

First sign of spring... a bike ride

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a bike ride, so my brother and I did just that! Miami Whitewater Forest 8 mile bike trail. We thought about attempting the 2-seater bike but it proved a bit too challenging. We got a good laugh out of it though!

Make a Wish

Today I became an official Make a Wish volunteer. :) Can't wait to see the kids smile as we make wishes come true.

Green Hills Church steeple. Same church captured early this week. I was trying to show the skinny and tall elements of the structure, but i'm not sure that i accurately captured it. Maybe I don't have the right angle or lens.

Vandy Watertower

This watertower stands on Vanderbilt's Campus. I thought it was a neat structure against the blue sky on a beautiful day!

Vanderbilt's Peabody Campus. I've been doing research studies and have seen parts of several campus' that are very "green", scenic and beautiful!

Here is the Church....

There is an incredibly tall skinny church in the Green Hills area of Nashville. It stands out in my mind as the official symbol of the Green Hills "skyline", as it sits on top of a hill in this area. Apparently not the best time of day to be taking a photo since the church is shaded and the sun is directly in the eye of the lens. Lesson learned!

Everybody's Fine

We watched the movie "Everybody's Fine" and this picture really captures an image that stuck in my mind. I saw this thru my sunroof while driving thru town. If you haven't seen the movie, you should; I bet you will be touched by it in some way. Think of all of the conversations that have passed thru those phone lines...and from working at Prysmian, how those cables are made. :)
